A very rare racing Porsche from the 1960s is to be sold for 2.2 million euros (8 photos)
In October, RM Sotheby's will auction off a remarkable car from Porsche's motorsport history. This is a 906 Carrera 6, one of only 52 ever produced. The rarity will be offered for sale modified, but the lot will include spare parts to return it to its original condition. The expected price is from 1.8 to 2.2 million euros.
The Porsche 906 appeared in the company in 1966. The space frame in its design was combined with an aerodynamically optimized body and a 210-horsepower two-liter "six". It was created on the basis of a road engine, but thanks to serious modifications, the unit was lightened by 54 kilograms. Such an engine was installed on only 52 chassis, although Porsche assembled about 65 copies of the 906.
The design advantages provided the car with many victories in prestigious races. The copy put up for sale also actively competed, periodically leading both in the class and in the overall standings, but only in relatively small European events. The first owner of the car was the Racing Team Holland team, and during the restoration in the early 2010s, the sports car was repainted in its signature colors.
It is noted that now the rarity is equipped with an engine from a Porsche 911, but the sale kit includes an authentic, albeit not native unit from 1966.
