Rare track sports car Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa will be put up for auction (9 photos)
Maserati built only 12 track-based Versione Corsa for private customers based on the MC12 road supercar, and they rarely appear on the public market. At the end of January, the eighth copy in the batch of a unique orange color will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s. The expected cost is from 2.8 to 3.5 million euros. 
50 road-going Maserati MC12s were born in the mid-2000s, essentially to homologate a supercar with the same index for the FIA GT championship. A series of victories on tracks, including endurance races, generated customer demand for a private racing car, and in the end Maserati finally agreed to meet its customers' needs. However, when developing Versione Corsa, engineers were not bound by regulatory restrictions, and the new car was noticeably different from that used in official competitions.
For example, the standard six-liter V12 was boosted to 755 hp, which it developed at 8000 rpm - at that time the supercar became the most powerful Maserati in the history of the brand. The coupe is completely devoid of electronic assistants (there is not even ABS), but it was equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes and an integrated safety cage. The supercar reached 200 km/h in just 6.4 seconds.
Maserati sold non-road-legal track supercars for a million euros per unit. This particular copy was purchased in 2007 and has belonged to a single owner since then. The originality of both the MC12 units and the finishing of its body and interior has been confirmed by specialists from Archivio Storico Maserati.
The Maserati MC12 family is a close technical relative of the Ferrari Enzo supercar: they share both the platform and the basis of the power unit. In November 2023, two platform coupes with scanty mileage were put up for sale in the UK. It was proposed to pay more than $12 million for a mini-collection of iconic supercars.
