The rarest Porsche 910 prototype is up for auction (17 photos)

Sports team and rare car dealer Motor Classic&Competition has put up for sale a 1966 Porsche 910 racing prototype. It is alleged that this is the very first copy in a batch that consisted of only 28 cars. The direct cost of the rare prototype is not specified, but Motorsport Magazine, citing sources in the company, claims that the car was valued at $2.2 million. In addition, according to the publication, among its pilots is the famous racer and three-time Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda.





The Porsche 910 is called one of the key milestones in the brand's motorsport history. This particular car was used both for factory testing of new design solutions and directly in racing. The prototype has completed about 250 races of various classes.

Niki Lauda drove this car in 1969 at the 1,000-kilometer race at the Austrian Osterreichring. The driver's formula career had not yet begun - Lauda was 20 years old, and two years remained before his first race in F1. However, driving together with Otto Stuppacher for the privateers from the Bosch Racing Team, Niki Lauda was able to take ninth place in his group out of 21 participants.

The Porsche 910 is based on a space frame with fiberglass body panels. The prototype is equipped with a flat-six engine producing 220 hp. and is capable of accelerating to 270 km/h. The car is said to be in excellent condition, having been owned since 1994 by a private collector who has provided it with a complete restoration.
