I Found the Love of My Life in a Prison Cell on the Other Side of the World (6 photos)
Australian Jessica Silvey met American Craig Silvey through correspondence and fell in love with him. The 30-year-old Brisbane resident married the 34-year-old man while he was serving a 10-year sentence in Kansas for a particularly serious robbery. The couple starred in the popular reality show "Prison Brides" about seven women from around the world who tied the knot with criminals in America.
In 2023, Jessica, an insurance broker, left her family and Australia to be with her husband.
The couple married when Craig had served half of his sentence. Their marriage lasted five years until he was released early in 2023. It turned out that this was not Craig's first sentence, and he had only lived outside of correctional facilities for three years since he was 12.
During his last imprisonment, Craig was included in a resocialization program and allowed to get a job.
"I became a welder and saved 35 thousand dollars. This is a great achievement for me, because before I never even had two thousand," the American said.
It was then that Jessica, along with the film crew, flew across the world to her chosen one. The woman could not contain her excitement, standing at the prison gates. She was preparing to start a new life. Viewers watched the couple adapt to a new reality. Jessica became pregnant shortly after her husband's release. The news caused delight on the show, but behind the scenes, tension was growing.
"Money is the main reason for our arguments," the Australian admitted to the camera.
Jessica complained that Craig did not understand the sacrifices she had made. But he was only worried that the funds in the account were getting smaller and smaller.
"I saved money for seven years. I spent most of it on this relationship," he was indignant.
By early 2024, rumors began to circulate about a divorce and Craig's arrest on charges of domestic violence.
Jessica eventually returned to Australia, where she gave birth to her child. At the time, she said: "We both didn't realize how difficult it would be to survive 10 years in prison."
After the birth of her son Hudson, the woman changed her mind and returned to the United States in November 2024.
"This time, adapting to life in the States was not easy for me," she shared on social media. "Craig has become more proactive and has taken on new responsibilities over the past week. He gets along great with Hudson."
Fans hoped that the family would take part in the second season of the reality show. But just the other day, the woman admitted that her marriage was a mistake.
"I wish I had never done this," she wrote on social media.
