A British family discovered a Nazi bunker from World War II under their house (10 photos + 1 video)

In October 2021, Sean Tullier, 35, and his wife Caroline, 32, moved into a new house in Torteval, Guernsey. They began renovating and suddenly discovered a bunker with two spacious rooms and a corridor. There were frightening inscriptions in German on the walls.





The phrase "achtung, feind hort mit" ("beware, the enemy is listening") made them shudder.

Sean, a carpenter from Guernsey, knew the island was littered with war relics from the German occupation of 1940-45, when Hitler turned the Channel Islands into a fortress.



"I'd heard about bunkers, but I never thought there could be one under our house!" he told local reporters. The couple had long suspected there was something hidden under the foundations, as the Germans had used it as an arms depot. They had no proof until the daughter of the previous owner wrote to them.

"I put an advert up for chopping boards. She recognised our pink kitchen and asked, 'Have you found the rooms downstairs?'" Sean recalls. She explained that she and her family had played there as children until their father locked the premises up.





Determined to investigate, the couple rented a backhoe and dug up 100 tonnes of earth to find the entrance to the bunker.



The find was impressive: two rooms and a corridor with a tiled floor at a depth of 5 meters, an emergency hatch, old bottles and dumbbells.





"It's incredible," Tulle admitted. "These aren't just rooms, they're living history. Cold, damp, and a reminder of what people had to endure."





The couple wants to turn the bunker into a games area with a pool table and a gym. The German phrases will be retained.

"I promised to throw a Halloween party there," laughs Sean. "It's my duty to make that happen!"
