VW Touareg is over! There will be no more such cars (4 photos)
Volkswagen plans to retire the image model as early as 2026.
Designed on the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne, the premium SUV Touareg, along with the executive sedan Phaeton, once raised the status of Volkswagen among customers. Now, almost a quarter of a century later, the need to keep the technically complex model in production has disappeared, since priorities have changed in Wolfsburg.
A publication in the British Autocar claims that in 2026, the production of the current third-generation Touareg will be discontinued without a direct successor. As a replacement, the Germans are going to actively promote the Tayron crossover, which has similar capabilities at a much lower price. Although, in fact, it is just an extended Tiguan with additional comfortable options. "Tyron" is offered in key world markets in both two-row and three-row versions and with a 2.0 TSI 4Motion engine, it can tow a trailer weighing up to 2500 kg.
Thus, Volkswagen returns to the familiar environment of cars available to most buyers. Of course, you can no longer even dream of any bold delights like a 5-liter V10 TDI on the first-generation Touareg.
