When you think of a 1960s Porsche - or Porsche in general - come to mind comes 911, and in fact there are many good reasons for this. The car is an undisputed icon. This is the fact that led to that many other cars - deservedly or not - have become almost forgotten, lost in the shadow of its more popular and more successful brother.

You can talk for a long time on the topic “which Porsche is the worst in stories". Some are certainly better than others, but in theory each of them fantastic in its own way. In the case of the German company, each model, leaving the factory, was with "mechanical know-how", that is, excellent technical solutions, modern design and performance, with which few could compare.

But even within this framework, some of them, for certain reasons, are less popular. Let's dwell on the forgotten Porsche 914, produced from 1969 to 1976. Many will criticize it for not really being a real Porsche, but developed jointly with Volkswagen. Porsche wanted the "people's car" to replace the 912, while Volkswagen was desperate to create a successor to the aging Karmann-Ghia.

The end result was that the 914 had a mechanical Volkswagen and the price of Porsche, but despite this, 118,978 were sold cars.

In the basic version, the 914 developed only 79 hp, but if the buyer chose 2-liter petrol engine, power jumped to 109 hp. Perhaps, in modern times, such a figure is not impressive, but it is necessary say that the 914th had a mass of only 985 kg. This allowed him accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 8.7 seconds, and the maximum speed was 207 km / h.

Distinctive features of the model were that the engine located in the center, a five-speed manual gearbox on several years ahead of its time (later Porsche would offer four-speed automatic transmission for American market), and all four disc brakes were rare in the industry.

The 914 was relatively affordable by Porsche standards. Basic the model cost $5,400, or about $32,600 in today's money, and the surcharge for the 2-liter engine was $ 700 (4227 dollars).

Today, the 914th model has a lot of admirers. Average cost starts at $25,000. But it all depends on the condition configuration.
