In Australia, a man kept his girlfriend on a chain, whom he suspected of infidelity
Zane Woodward, 34, from Kingaroy, began handcuffing his girlfriend, Brodie McGugan, to her bed by her right ankle at night to prevent her from leaving the house to have sex with other men. Woodward also took her mobile phone, wallet and keys, completely isolating her from her family, friends and work.
The man became increasingly violent, and in the last week he began chaining her during the day. Woodward had to remove the chain from time to time so she could go to the toilet or eat, but sometimes he did not allow this and kept her chained even when he left the house.
This week, Woodward took Brodie to a street cash machine in Oak Flats. The woman managed to escape and hid in a pharmacy, where she flagged down a stranger. She then went to the police and was taken to hospital. Doctors found multiple rib fractures, bruises and a cracked eye socket, which, according to the examination, were sustained a couple of weeks ago.
The suspect was arrested the following day at his place of residence. He was charged with kidnapping with intent to commit a serious crime, two counts of domestic violence causing bodily harm, seizure and detention of a person for the purpose of obtaining a benefit, assault and intimidation.
