Fight at the airport: a man hit a woman for refusing to give up his seat to his wife
At Bogota International Airport, a man attacked a lawyer over a dispute over a seat next to his wife. The incident led to a mass brawl and a police investigation.
According to the Daily Mail, a conflict that escalated into a fight involving several passengers occurred at El Dorado International Airport in the capital of Colombia. The cause of the skirmish was a seat in the waiting area: the man hit the woman when she refused to give up her seat for his wife.
The incident occurred at gate 9 in the flight waiting area. The aggressor was businessman Hector Santacruz, who approached state contractor Claudia Segura and demanded that she vacate her seat so that he could sit next to his wife, Karen de Santacruz. When the woman refused, a verbal altercation broke out between them.
According to the victim, the conflict quickly escalated. Santacruz began to threaten, knocked the phone out of Segura's hands and hit her in the face. According to her, the force of the blow caused her to lose an earring. The video shows Segura lying on the floor while an airport employee helps her.
Other passengers intervened in an attempt to stop the attacker. Police then escorted Santacruz out of the terminal while his wife collected their belongings. Segura was taken to a medical center in Engativa for examination.
Segura said she was at the airport with her laptop, doing work, and sat down in the only available seat. She said there was no sign that the seat was occupied. Santacruz's wife only said the seat was reserved after she sat down.
"I was finishing the phone call when he came over and said, 'Get up or I'll lift you up.' Then he asked another passenger to film the whole thing," Segura recalled.
After the incident became public, Karen de Santacruz recorded a video apology. She said she does not support her husband's actions, condemns violence and expressed regret for behavior that contradicts her values as a woman and founder of the Khala brand.
"I cannot justify what happened. It was wrong and I will not remain silent," she stressed, responding to public criticism and calls to boycott her business.
