In China, you can be expelled if you don’t lose weight (7 photos)

The chain is, of course, a bit more complicated. I'll explain it now.

A useful program for physical education

The thing is that Chinese universities are introducing weight loss courses for very flabby or fat students. And they evaluate students based on how much weight they can lose in a semester. It is reported that the "record holder" lost 15 kilograms.

There they are, doing push-ups from their knees. I'm the same...

And all because China is very concerned about the growing level of obesity in the country. According to a recent study, almost 35% of the Chinese population is overweight, and more than 14% are classified as obese. Therefore, universities have gone along with the state "party line". For example, such a course is available at the prestigious Peking University, it was launched in 2022. It is only available to students with a BMI above 25, that is, with overweight.

The physical education teacher is sometimes on duty in the cafeteria and comments on the correctness of the food choices of his students

And you will pass the test there if you lose a certain percentage of fat. And girls sign up, of course - such motivation, otherwise - you will fail the exam! Chinese students have always been required to attend mandatory physical education classes, but the new weight loss courses are different in that their clear goal is to reduce the body mass index (BMI). Moreover, the same Peking University has a very strict regime in the Physical Improvement course. The girls shared their strict rules online, and it became the subject of discussion online for months.

I love this thing, but it's hard to find in any gym

At the beginning of the course, all students have their data recorded, weight, height, muscle mass, to track their progress. Then they are divided into groups by obesity level, so that each group can be assigned a diet. Each student had to report their workouts to the other members of the group every day, which allowed them to track each other's progress. And on average, it really helped! The first graduating class lost 6 to 8 kilograms in a semester.

And in high school, chubby schoolchildren are simply sent to a military camp

But in the end, everyone still took the control measurements. The grade was given based on the percentage of weight lost by the students (to be fair, because fat people can simply skip dinner twice and lose three kilos). But since all Chinese people worry about grades much, much more than you and I do, there are quite a lot of excellent weight loss students. There was one high-profile case where one guy admitted that it was a mistake to agree to this course (he gained one kilo because he was busy with basic training and ate while studying). He was criticized and "reprimanded" as weak-willed.

By the way, here's a rare sight for you - a Chinese woman in a photo without filters on her face!

The thing is that there were so many overweight girls who wanted to take the course that not everyone was accepted. And the fat guy was simply taking the place of more motivated participants. Because those who have let themselves go cannot do this without external motivation. And reprimands, retakes, and weight debts are very good at forcing people not to eat fatty foods unnecessarily. The motivation "for the sake of your health and beauty" does not work for the entire population. And academic intimidation is a pretty good option, mentally safe, I would say.

And this is the infamous Sheeng, she dropped out of university because constant studying prevented her from losing weight

Well, since in the final year all Chinese study without raising their heads, they lose any physical shape before university. They even have their own nickname in Chinese: "students with crispy skin". These are those who, because of their studies, lost their physical shape and entered the University in a terrible body condition. There are about 30% of such first-year students.
