A giant iceberg floated to a village in Greenland (4 photos + 1 video)
The iceberg is drifting dangerously close to the homes of local residents. It could cause significant damage to the settlement if it touches the shore or breaks apart. Authorities have already warned residents of Innorsuit about the possible risks.
Greenlanders have been asked not to approach the iceberg by land or water. Emergency services have advised islanders not to go in groups to a store located near the iceberg.
Not only are the ice chunks that can break off from the iceberg dangerous, but also the possibility that their fall into the water can trigger waves. They, in turn, can damage houses or even wash away a number of structures.
Experts note that large icebergs usually move within a few days. But the one that floated to Innorsuit has been motionless for about a week - this is causing concern among Greenlanders.
"We are temporarily closing the local fish factory where I work, as well as a small store," said Dennis Lehtonen, a village resident. He noted, however, that he was more impressed by the iceberg than scared by it.

This is not the first time Innorsuit has seen an iceberg in its harbor. In 2018, another ice block appeared off the coast of the settlement, it weighed 11 tons. The iceberg was so big that it could be seen from space. The locals were then evacuated, but the iceberg eventually floated away without causing any harm to the village.
