More than a hundred tourists stood on the bridge at once to take a selfie. As a result, the flimsy structure could not withstand and collapsed into the river.
A tragedy occurred in the Indian city of Pune (Maharashtra): a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed. The incident occurred when about 125 people simultaneously entered the bridge.
After the collapse, some people were carried away by the current, several were pulled out of the water, but 25-30 are considered missing. Six died - at least, this is the data cited by The Free Press Journal.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, the search for the missing is still underway, but there are increasing speculations that people could have drowned in the river, the water level of which has risen significantly over the past two days due to heavy rains. This place was popular with tourists. People came here to take beautiful photos, although the authorities regularly warned about the instability of the structure, which had not been repaired for about 30 years.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the victims, adding that the government would bear the cost of treating the injured. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar said a plan to build a new bridge across the river at a cost of Rs 8 lakh had recently been approved.
Earlier in the day, a helicopter carrying six crew members crashed in India. It was reported that there were more people on board than the capacity. Also recently, a plane crashed into a medical college hostel just after takeoff in India. Only one passenger survived the crash.
