Due to traffic jams, she was unable to get to the airport on time for the ill-fated flight AI-171, which took the lives of 371 people. 
Bhumi Chautan, a Bristol MBA student, returned to her parents in India for the holidays and was due to fly back to England on Air India flight 171 last Thursday.
But she was 10 minutes late because she got stuck in a traffic jam on the way to Ahmedabad airport. She rushed there before the flight, but the gate was already closed. She swore and demanded to be let in as an exception. But they refused. 
"When I was late for the flight, I was depressed. The only thing on my mind was: if I had started a little earlier, I would have boarded the plane. I asked the airline staff to let me in, since I was only 10 minutes late. I told them that I was the last passenger, and therefore, please let me board the plane, but they did not allow it."
And when she began to negotiate a refund, the flight took off and immediately crashed. Of the 242 people on board, only one was saved. Bhumi had seat 36G.
