Woman fails airport security check because of makeup
Woman at Shanghai airport fails to pass security check due to heavy makeup, facial recognition system fails to match her face with documents.
A video has gone viral on Chinese social media showing a young woman at Shanghai airport being forced to remove her makeup to pass a facial recognition check. According to the footage, allegedly filmed by an airport employee, the girl was asked to remove her makeup because the automated scanners were unable to match her face with the photo on her ID.
It is not yet known whether the girl was able to pass the check, but netizens were not indifferent. Some laughed at the situation.
"You don't walk around with a filter in real life, do you?" one commenter joked.
Others expressed sympathy: the girl looked clearly embarrassed, and the staff, in their opinion, were overly strict.
Many also raised questions about the accuracy of modern facial recognition systems.
"If makeup can confuse the scanner, shouldn't the technology be updated?" one user asked.
