Nepal authorities will investigate the high-speed ascent of the British to Everest (4 photos)
Due to the difficulty of acclimatization, the climb with all the stops at base camps usually takes about two months, but the British managed it in five days.
A group of climbers from Britain climbed Everest in a record short time - just five days. It is known that the ex-soldiers of the British units, as well as the Minister for Veterans Affairs Al Carnes of the British Ministry of Defense, used xenon for the ascent.
Nepal Tourism Authority chief Narayan Prasad Regmi said the climbers had not warned anyone about using xenon.
And now the authorities intend to investigate this incident. The climbers, as well as the British minister, will be invited for a detailed conversation, The Telegraph reports. According to the publication, the climbers trained for more than 500 hours before the ascent: they slept in a special tent and used a mask that simulated high-altitude conditions.
And xenon was used immediately before the ascent to the summit. According to the British, it accelerates the production of erythropoietin, and, accordingly, reduces the acclimatization time.
Everest is considered the most difficult peak in the world to climb. Many climbers never reach the cherished goal, but if the experience of using xenon becomes widespread, the mountain will turn into a walk-through yard. The measures that Nepalese authorities deem necessary will be taken against the British in accordance with the law, the head of Nepal's tourism department said. What exactly the climbers can expect is still unknown.
