Classic Batmobile to be auctioned off in the USA (27 photos)
A replica of the car from the Tim Burton film has a V8 under the hood and is capable of moving independently. This particular example did not take part in the filming of the film, but has a certificate of authenticity from Warner Brothers and a serial number with a number one. The fact is that the car was built for official stunt shows at Six Flags amusement parks.
The Batmobile is based on the Chevrolet Impala chassis, which the creators from the Wounded Knee Motors studio extended to almost 6 meters and equipped with hydraulic suspension. The car is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 from Chevy, aggregated with an automatic transmission. All torque is transmitted to the rear wheels, which are wrapped in meaty Mickey Thompson tires measuring 255/80 R15.
The Batmobile's body is made of fiberglass, and the fittings are made from parts of a real fighter jet. In particular, the jet engine nozzle at the stern, like a number of other components, are borrowed from the British Harrier. And they can even be called partially functional. Given the stunt focus of the replica, flamethrowers are mounted inside the nozzle to simulate afterburners.
The Batmobile worked in the amusement park from 1992 to 1994. Auctioneers expect that the car will fetch between $220,000 and $260,000.
