A pensioner was convicted in Turkey for violence against her granddaughter. The 18-year-old girl was going for a walk in the evening after work, but her grandmother did not like it. She tried to dissuade her granddaughter from going for a walk, but she did not listen. As a result, the granny, having exhausted her stock of arguments, lightly slapped her granddaughter on the hand. She threw the phone at the old woman's head and the grandmother collapsed on the floor.

The pensioner had to be hospitalized, and the police came to her clinic. And although the granddaughter did not file a police report against her grandmother, but filed a public lawsuit, the old woman was not punished with a fine, but was accused of illegal restriction of freedom and violence. 
As a result, the granddaughter who threw the phone at her grandmother was released, and the pensioner was found guilty and sentenced to 4.2 years in prison. Such actions in Turkey are punishable by up to 14 years, but the judge took into account the age of the defendant and mitigated the sentence.
The slapping incident occurred in August 2024, the first trial took place in February, and now the family is awaiting a decision on the appeal. If it is rejected, 80-year-old Asiye Kaytan, who, by the way, raised the granddaughter, will have to go to prison. 
The old lady's lawyer says that all Turks grew up beaten by slippers. And nothing. Now Hasan Ozan Orpak is trying to get slippers excluded from the list of weapons. Then, perhaps, the pensioner will live out her life at home, and not in prison.
