A homeless dog settled at a gas station, and now the whole city takes care of him (11 photos)

Pingo has lived at a gas station in Vinhedo, Brazil for over two decades. Unlike many stray dogs, he found a home for himself. Despite his age and declining health, the station's workers and locals care for him.





Pingo has lived at the gas station for over two decades - longer than some of its owners!



Julio D'Auria, founder of the Amigos dos Animais de Rua de Vinhedo group, has been following Pingo's story for years.

"When I moved to Vinhedo in 2006, the dog was already living at this gas station and no one knew where he came from. Since then, the station has changed hands four times, but Pingo has stayed. Given how long he has been living in this area, we estimate that he is now around 20-22 years old," D'Auria explained.

Instead of wandering the streets, Pingo decided to settle down at a gas station





"My neighbor, who lives across the street from the gas station, takes care of him. She changes his water every day, brings him food, and even cooks chicken for him. She also takes him to the vet when needed, and keeps him clean, bathing him. In the winter, he has warm clothes and blankets. He spends part of the day in the manager's office, which is air conditioned to keep him comfortable."

The entire community takes care of Pingo - from the gas station workers to the neighbors



Over the years, Pingo has become a symbol of love of life. Many customers of the gas station have established a deep emotional connection with him.

The animal has everything necessary for a comfortable life: its own bed, warm winter clothes and even an air conditioner



"Pin-code" has become a real symbol of this gas station and the whole city. Many people, even from other areas, come here especially to see him, - says D'Auria.

A neighbor takes care of his food and health



Before the neighbor took care of him, another woman took care of him. In addition, the gas station workers also make sure the dog is well-fed and feels good.

"Pingo was already well known in his area, but thanks to the Internet, his story spread. Many were touched and began to visit him. He became a symbol of loyalty and a true guardian of the gas station."

The dog became famous throughout Brazil



Despite his advanced age, Pingo still enjoys life





Julio shared: “I two years ago, he founded the Amigos dos Animais de Vinhedo group, which has 120 members. We help dozens of people who collectively care for hundreds of animals. To raise funds, we hold events and launched the Cartão Fidelidade app, which has been supported by 60 local businesses. Part of the money spent by users in these establishments goes to help animals. Thanks to this initiative, we have already built a shelter for 34 animals."
