The new Tesla Model Y has become more expensive, but better (11 photos)

Tesla has officially unveiled the updated Model Y electric crossover, which will be delivered in China from March this year and is already available for order in the debut Launch Series. The car has become slightly more expensive, but can travel further on a single charge and has a number of additional features.





It will be much easier to distinguish the updated Model Y from the previous one than in the case of Model 3. As part of the Juniper project, a new design for the front end was developed for the electric car with a more sloping hood, a different bumper and lighting equipment in the style of the Cybercab drone. A “mono-lamp” also appeared at the stern, highlighting the brand name. Other wheel rims, more grippy tires, and alternative interior trim options are offered.

Among the technical additions, only an improved suspension has been named so far, which should provide a more comfortable ride. In addition, Model Y received a front camera for the first time.

The announcement of Model Y Juniper took place simultaneously on different sides of the planet, but the technical specifications were only made public for China. The basic version of the crossover will be equipped with a 299-horsepower engine and a 62.5 kW⋅h battery. Acceleration to 100 km/h will take the electric car 5.3 seconds (minus 0.6 seconds compared to the pre-restyling version), the range according to the CLTC cycle has increased by about 40 km - up to 593 km.

The top modification will receive two engines, a front one with 186 horsepower and a 254-horsepower rear one, and a battery increased to 78.4 kW⋅h. Acceleration time to 100 km/h has decreased by 0.7 seconds (to 4.3 seconds), the power reserve has increased to 719 km (plus about 30 km). Tesla calls this version the longest-range Model Y in the history of the model. In both cases, the maximum speed of the electric car is 201 km/h.

As for prices, the electric car on the Chinese market has risen in price by about 5 percent. Prices start at 263,500 yuan, the dual-motor version is priced at least at 303,500 yuan. At the start of sales, Model Y will also be available in the Launch Series version with improved interior trim and special nameplates.

The pre-restyling Model Y had another modification called Performance, the most powerful and fastest, but the details of its update are still kept secret.
