There will be no cheap Tesla electric car - this is completely contrary to the principles of the company (1 photo)
Rumors about a hypothetical budget Tesla with the supposed name Model 2 have been circulating since 2018. It was assumed that the price of the electric car would start at $25,000, which would make the electric car one of the most affordable offers on the market. In response to a direct question about the launch date of such a model, Elon Musk called the concept stupid and pointless. According to the head of Tesla, this idea is completely contrary to the principles of the company.
The fact is that for some time now Tesla has been making a serious bet on autonomous driving technologies. According to Elon Musk's plan, it is drones that will determine the future of the automotive industry. Accordingly, the development and launch of an ordinary inexpensive battery-powered car with full-fledged controls does not fit into the businessman's current strategy.
Tesla hopes to occupy a close price segment of the market with the help of the serial version of the Cybercab robotaxi, presented relatively recently. This two-seater electric car has no steering wheel and pedals - it is assumed that it will move completely autonomously. Tesla plans to organize robotaxi services on its basis and sell Cybercab to private buyers.
Elon Musk previously stated that Tesla will master mass production of the drone by 2027, but industry experts doubt this. Questions are raised both by the level of technology development, which is currently clearly insufficient to safely ensure full autonomy, and by the state of the regulatory framework. According to US laws, the active use of drones on public roads is limited, as are the possibilities of producing vehicles without controls.
