Tesla plans to produce electric vehicles for $25,000 (2 photos)

Although not without difficulties, the Cybertruck electric pickup truck has entered the production line at Tesla's Texas facility, humanoid robots Optimus are also being improved there, and the next stages in the implementation of the company's multi-year development plan should be the release of an inexpensive electric car costing $25,000 and an unmanned taxi.

As Reuters reports, citing its own sources, a more affordable electric car under the symbol Redwood is being prepared for the start of serial production in mid-2025, and Tesla is already beginning to form a pool of component suppliers for the new model based on production volumes of 10,000 cars per week. It is assumed that the car, built on a new generation platform, will be a compact electric crossover. Informed sources claim that the new NV9X platform will give birth to at least two new Tesla models, and mass production of the first will be launched in June 2025. Most likely, at first the car will be produced in Texas, since the company's headquarters is located near the local Tesla plant, and it is easier and faster to resolve technical problems that arise.

Last March, Elon Musk promised that the new platform would halve the cost of electric vehicles. In May, he added that Tesla is currently working on two new electric vehicle models, which together will be produced in quantities of up to 5 million units per year. He initially promised to introduce an automatic taxi in 2024, but it is still difficult to judge how realistic such plans are, taking into account the not very obvious progress with the development of autopilot on models equipped with controls familiar to drivers. According to some estimates, new electric vehicles in the Tesla line will appear only in 2026.

The company is also going to build a plant in Mexico, where they will produce some kind of mass model of an electric car. Over time, it will also be installed on the production line of an enterprise in Germany. A new model in Tesla's aging lineup of electric vehicles would help the company better withstand the onslaught of competitors, the most active of which are Chinese automakers.
