A six-wheeled Toyota Hilux for the military was created in Australia (4 photos)
The Australian company Supacat has presented an unusual modification of the Toyota Hilux, which they called MUV — Medium Utility Vehicle. It is intended for military purposes and therefore, in addition to a large cargo area, received an additional third axle. Supacat expects to be able to negotiate with the Australian Armed Forces on full-fledged deliveries of such vehicles.
The creators of the truck said that they used a maximum of publicly available components in its development. This will facilitate the subsequent maintenance of the vehicles that will be put into service — there will be no need to look for exotic spare parts. Actually, for the same reason, the Toyota Hilux, which is very common in Australia, was used as a base for the MUV.
The modularity of the cargo platform is separately emphasized, thanks to which the MUV can be easily and quickly reconfigured for various tasks: from transporting equipment to participating in mobile combat or reconnaissance groups.
The Supacat MUV debuted with a set of accessories that improve cross-country ability, including power bumpers, a snorkel and additional lighting. However, it is not specified what engine the pickup is equipped with. In Australia, the Toyota Hilux is equipped with a 2.8-liter diesel engine with 204 hp and 500 Nm in combination with a manual or automatic transmission. Most likely, the MUV retained the standard engine so as not to impair repairability.
