A young woman lived on Beyoncé’s diet for a week, woke up hating every day, and scared her boyfriend (14 photos)
Australian blogger Michelle Andrews spent a week following Beyoncé’s diet, which restricts food intake to white-colored items only. Once the challenge ended, she admitted it had been a bad idea; the celebrity diet and exercise regimen turned out to be a total nightmare for her.
Want to know how Michelle’s week went? Poor Beyoncé—having a stunning figure is no excuse for living like that.
Interestingly, Michelle is known for having tried a "celebrity" diet before. She once decided to adopt Victoria Beckham’s lifestyle, only to discover just how impossibly difficult it was.
"One of my best decisions was 'I’m going to quit drinking tequila.' Right after that comes 'I’m going to Europe,'" Michelle notes.
However, the idea of living like a superstar for a week turned out to be one of her worst decisions, the blogger admits.
"That idea ranks right up there with drunk-texting an ex and skipping sunscreen for the first 24 years of my life."
Beyoncé’s diet and exercise regimen is designed to prepare for festivals like Coachella, which takes place in April 2019. But this lifestyle is about as pleasant as a phone call at 7 a.m. on a Sunday.
The daily meal plan looks like this: breakfast—egg whites; lunch—turkey slices with capers; dinner—fish and wasabi.
The only permissible snacks on this diet are homemade unsweetened yogurt and cucumbers. On top of that, you have to work out for two hours every day.
Monday
"Even though a cold was dampening my spirits—and it was the first day of 'that time of the month'—I embraced the idea with enthusiasm.
I start the day with the whipped whites of THREE eggs, sprinkled with seasoning to boost the flavor just a little. The result feels like eating salty air.
Despite this, the rest of Beyoncé’s diet actually seems pretty good. "Lunch doesn't exactly inspire excitement, but at least it looks like real food."
"Next, I have to do Beyoncé’s interval workout: 45 minutes of running, 45 minutes of glute and leg exercises, and 30 minutes for the upper body."
"I was supposed to end the day with yellowtail sashimi, but I swapped it for battered barramundi. Sue me, but I’m not spending £30 a kilo on that ‘fish for the rich’."
Tuesday
"I’m already worried about how much I’ll spend on eggs this week. I get that this is Beyoncé’s choice, but a small portion of three egg whites isn't enough for an adult. So, I ate five."
"I’m still hungry; I’ve been snacking on cucumbers and carrots soaked in balsamic vinegar all day—to the point where my mouth literally hurts."
"It’s only been 40 hours into the challenge, and I already feel broken." Beyoncé is simply obsessed with SoulCycle (spoiler: an "exorbitantly expensive version of your standard group cycling class"). In the evening, I hopped on the exercise bike for an hour, finishing the workout with some ab exercises.
I collapsed into bed completely exhausted.
Wednesday
I don't think I can quite convey the rage I feel when I wake up every morning.
My stomach is constantly growling, I have a splitting headache, and my boyfriend is actually afraid of me.
The thought of eating even more white foods fills me with dread, but I’m determined to keep going. I’ll eat egg whites, turkey, capers, and cucumbers, and endure this two-hour torture session they call a workout.
It’s not exactly a super strict diet, but the menu is depressing. My body is craving sugar and carbs, so I glumly eat some homemade yogurt. It’s white, too, and I have to stop myself from screaming.
At one point, my emotions got the better of me and I just burst into tears. I don’t know who to blame: my period, Beyoncé, or a society that pressures women to restrict themselves for the sake of their figure.
Thursday
"I resorted to a few tricks to preserve my sanity. I started eating whole eggs—yolk and all. The yolk is a cheerful thing; it shouldn't be banned anywhere—except in meringue. I think Beyoncé would agree with me.
Capers are going in the trash. I mean, what *are* capers, anyway? Exactly—nobody knows. Lunch will be served with a salad of my choice—including avocado, if I feel like it."
"A two-hour workout is still exhausting, and it’s hard to fit into my work schedule. So, I do one session in the morning and swap the evening one for an hour-long walk.
I still hate Beyoncé, but I’m in much better shape today than I was yesterday. I think that counts as a win."
Friday
"Oh my god, today feels like Christmas. I’m rewarding myself with two slices of toast for breakfast, and even though my denim shorts are getting baggier, I can’t wait for the challenge to end.
Because, yes—despite everything—a flat stomach is pretty cool."
"But not risk slamming into a wall at any moment? Sorry, dear Bey, but to hell with it all—and with a little roll of fat around the waist."
