Typhoon Yagi, which hit Thailand in mid-September, brought floods and landslides. Local residents are still trying to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.

Heavy rains caused a series of floods. Water reached the popular Elephant Nature Park in the north of the country. The rehabilitation center, founded in the 1990s, has saved more than 200 elephants from the tourism and logging industries.

And now the staff are desperately trying to save their pets from the flood. At the moment, they have managed to evacuate more than 100 animals to a safer place, many of which are blind or have physical injuries.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to save all the elephants. The park confirmed that one of the two elephants that died was Ploy Tong, who was blind. The other two are still missing.

The founder of the elephant rescue and rehabilitation center, Sengduan Chailert, reported that among the evacuated animals, many are sick elephants, some can barely walk, and noted that the staff had to carry out the largest evacuation of elephants. In addition to the elephants, the park is home to about 5,000 rescued animals, including dogs, cats, horses, pigs and rabbits, some of which were previously evacuated.

The park is currently in dire need of help, and has already asked the Thai authorities to provide boats for the mahouts so that they can stay with the remaining elephants and provide them with food.

The water continues to rise rapidly, and 13 more animals remain in the pens. This flood is officially recognized as the strongest in the history of the reserve.

The situation in the country itself is not much better than in the reserve.
