Zoologists have bred the ugliest breed of cats (3 photos + 1 video)
A cross between a Sphynx and a Munchkin has been named Bully Cat. This very wrinkled cat has no fur and walks on short legs.
Animal lovers and activists around the world are calling for a boycott of the Bully Cat breed. They are also called designer cats and bulldog cats. They are distinguished by their lack of fur, many wrinkles and short legs.
Bully is a breed of hairless cats that adds new problematic features to the usual sphinxes: short crooked legs and very wrinkled skin. It is believed that the hooligan cats were bred in the USA several years ago. Quite quickly, the fashion for them moved across the Atlantic, gathering an army of fans on Facebook*, TikTok and Instagram*. Bullies gained particular popularity in the UK.
A spokesman for the UK's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told MailOnline about the health problems that the new breed of cat could face. According to him, because of their short legs, bullies can have problems with their joints, and because of their deep wrinkles, they can develop skin diseases that cause severe discomfort.
The lack of fur makes the cats vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation, which can cause cancer, and it leads to a build-up of oil on the skin, which is why pets need to be washed constantly. The lack of eyelashes and whiskers prevents them from fully exploring their surroundings. Additional problems may arise because the cats were bred from a limited gene pool.
Animal welfare charity Naturewatch Foundation is calling on people to stop buying bullies. “We have seen increasingly extreme dog breeding practices around the world in recent years, and it seems that unscrupulous people are now turning their attention to exploiting cats in the same way, all in pursuit of greed and likes on social media,” the foundation says. They call bullies “an animal welfare disaster” and consider their breeding cruel.
