1963 Shelby Cobra to Be Sold for $1.5 Million (22 photos)
On August 16, an auction for the sale of the iconic Shelby Cobra roadster is scheduled. The car cannot be called completely original, but it has retained the factory units, and the mileage of the sports car is 27.5 thousand kilometers. In addition, there are several famous owners in its biography. It is expected that the Cobra will be sold for an amount of 1.25-1.5 million dollars.
The sports car with chassis number CSX2161 was assembled in the summer of 1963 by order of a famous Hollywood producer. The car was equipped with a 4.75-liter V8 in combination with a four-speed manual, the body was painted silver, and the interior was finished in red tones. The producer did not own the Cobra for long — in 1965, the car was bought by film composer Elmer Bernstein. His creative biography includes, for example, soundtracks for the films The Magnificent Seven, Ghostbusters, and Wild Wild West.
Bernstein hardly used the car: instead, the sports car was driven for several years by the famous racer Steve McQueen. After that, the roadster changed owners several times until it was transported to Europe in 2003. There it was restored, simultaneously repainted black and accessories were added — a safety arc, custom wheels, and an air intake on the hood. Now the rarity is in the UK.
