The run was productive: an athlete from Kumertau discovered huge mutant mushrooms (4 photos)
The 52-year-old athlete went for a run to prepare for the Babai-Trail mountain half marathon. And, according to the man, it was productive.
– We recorded the track of the distance, added markings and ... found giant puffball mushrooms! The largest weighed 5.6 kilograms! And the total weight of the "catch" is more than 20 kg! – a resident of Kumertau shared.
In Bashkiria, puffballs (popularly called "wood grouse") are very common - from the beginning of summer until the end of October. They grow in fields, steppes, meadows, deciduous and mixed forests and can reach impressive sizes, weighing up to 10 (or even more) kilograms. There are also varieties of puffballs - pear-shaped (they, like honey mushrooms, grow on rotten stumps) and pearl. The latter also have the unusual name "grandfather's tobacco", and all because the old mushroom turns dark brown, and if you step on it, a cloud of spores will fly out of it.
Puffballs are quite edible, but they should be eaten when they are still medium-sized, and the flesh itself is dense and snow-white.
Several mushrooms have already been fried and eaten: they turned out to be tasty.
