A British woman found a way to cut her food expenses in half (6 photos)
Charlene Waraker, 33, from Sheffield, spent £130 a week on groceries for her family of six. But in 2020, she found a way to cut costs.
Every six months, the mother of many children spends £240 on tinned food, dry snacks, household chemicals and household items, and buys fresh food once a week.
She has managed to reduce her grocery bill to £62.50 a week. She now saves £250 a month, which is £3,000 a year.
She plans her shopping carefully, looks for deals and avoids impulse buys.
Charlene says: "I shop at Sainsbury's and Home Bargains every six months - toiletries, homeware and tinned food. The uncertainty of the pandemic has taught me to stock up."
"I have significantly reduced my expenses. I think in advance what I will cook. It turns out that you can just go to stores and look for the best deals. I try to make a list of what I need a month before buying."
So Charlene bought two boxes of instant yeast, four jars of coconut oil, nine packs of sanitary towels and five jars of baking powder.
She quickly realised that she was saving around £40 on weekly shopping for herself and her four children.
Charlene also started planning out the family's daily meals so she could stock up ahead of time and avoid overspending.
"My £250 a month is mostly spent on fresh produce, which I buy every week. It's a fraction of what I used to spend."
