Londoner goes hungry to feed her cats (7 photos)

Yasemn Kaptan, 46, from London, claims that for a year now he has been eating only occasionally, because all the money goes to food for her six cats. This is sad, but there is a plus: during this time she lost 32 kilos.





A woman receives a monthly disability allowance (she has osteoporosis) in the amount of £400, and this money goes to rent and bills. She also takes care of her partner, who has multiple sclerosis, and receives a £69 care allowance per week of which £60 is spent on cat food, cat litter trays, special milk and cat treats.



According to Yasemn, the cost-of-living crisis has left little to no money left for food for oneself:

I can only afford to eat and drink once a week mint tea to satisfy my hunger, but I NEVER let my six cats to starve.





“I don’t have extra money, but I can’t drive the cats out to street. They grew up with us. We've had them since we were kittens. They already old, living out their term, and getting rid of them now is easy inhuman,” she says.



For a year of such a life, Yasemn's weight fell from 89 kg to 57 kg. The only meal of the week usually consists of barbecued vegetables. (pepper, onion) and lettuce. And the rest of the time she's at breakfast, lunch and dinner drinks mint tea.



My partner is worried about me, but I'm already used to this life. I'll be fine, everything will be fine. I can't do anything, I don't get rid of my cats. I have had them for 17 years, these are my little children, they support me.



I cry almost every day, I try to be happy, but I am depressed and tired.



This story appeared in the press against the backdrop of a growing concerns about the cost of living in the UK, as well as prices for food and electricity.

According to a study published by the Food and Drug Administration standards (FSA), last year the number of people using food bank jumped to one in six. More than one of five (22%) respondents in March 2022 said they missed an appointment food or reduced the number of meals due to lack of money for food.
