Dozens of people from different countries took part in the Coopershill Cheese Race near Gloucester in the UK and slid down a muddy hill.
This year there were about five thousand spectators at the famous race. People tumbled down a 183-meter-high hill trying to catch a wheel of cheese.
It rained before this year's race, making it easier for competitors to slide down the hill, although they had to wallow in the mud to win. The Tewksbury Area Safety Advisory Group deemed the competition unsafe, but that did not stop organizers from holding the race. To prevent injury, they set up a medical tent and also called in rugby players to catch people sliding down the hill. However, one of the race participants, American YouTuber and rapper IShowSpeed, injured his leg.
The winner of the first men's race was Tom from Germany. “England has gone crazy,” he shared his impressions. - I like it. I'm enjoying myself." Australian Dylan Twiss won the second men's race ahead of Briton Ollie. The loser was dressed as a gorilla, but lost parts of the costume while sliding down.
The women's race suffered a false start and was won by Abby Lampe of North Carolina. When the woman was asked if she used any tactics, she replied: “You just have to roll.” Second place was taken by a participant wearing a T-shirt with a union flag. She took sick leave from work just for the race.
The Coopershill Cheese Race is an annual event held on the last Monday in May at noon as part of the Spring Festival at Cooper's Hill, in the Cotswold region of Gloucestershire. During the competition, participants race down a steep 200-meter hill while chasing a three-kilogram wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. It can accelerate to 113 kilometers per hour. Participants usually slide behind her at a speed of 48 kilometers per hour. The first one to cross the finish line and catch the cheese wins. It becomes the prize for the winner. Several races are held as part of the competition.
