An unusual event has taken place in a mountain village in Himachal Pradesh that has captured the attention of all of India — a triple wedding according to an ancient custom.

Sunita Chauhan married two brothers at once — Pradeep and Kapil Negi. The marriage was concluded according to an ancient Hatti tradition known as “jodidar” or “jajda” — a form of polyandry that has survived only in a few remote regions of the country.

For the Hatti people, such a marriage has a special meaning. According to the head of the community, Kundan Singh Shastri, polyandry allows them to keep family lands indivisible, which is extremely important for their traditional way of life.

The Negi brothers themselves emphasize their willingness to jointly care for their spouse and future children, demonstrating unity and mutual understanding in an unusual family unit.
