French businesswoman Madame Catherine, 59, who lived in a luxury villa on Koh Samui, committed suicide by shooting herself.
In her will, she left her entire estate of 100 million baht, or about $2.7 million, and three cats to her Thai maid, known as "Pa Tim."
The Thai maid said she had known Madame Catherine for more than 17 years.
She received a salary of 22,000 baht per month.
Before the incident occurred, on April 28, Pa Tim came to clean the house as usual and told Madame Catherine that she was going to take time off to go to the temple as it was her birthday. Madame Catherine allowed her and said: “Happy birthday.”
The next day, the pool cleaner called Pa Tim and said that Madame Catherine was lying on the ground next to the pool, covered in blood. Pa Tim was shocked and hurried to the house. Katnin died from a shot in the temple.
After checking her LINE messenger messages, Pa Tim found a message from Madame Catherine indicating that there was a farewell letter in the safe. She and Madame Catherine's friend opened the safe and read the letter together.
It begins with the words "Au revoir" or "Farewell", and continues:
"My journey ends here. I very sincerely believe that you are a decent person. That is why I leave you my safe. I want to be cremated and, if possible, have my ashes scattered in Saparot."
The letter states that Madame Catherine bequeaths her villa, along with an adjoining plot of land, two additional acres of vacant land, luxury cars, jewelry, rings, diamonds stored in a safe and all the cash in the bank, to Pa Tim. She also gives two other villas to M. Vincent, Madame Catherine's ex-husband. In addition, the French woman asks Pa Tim to take care of her three beloved cats.
"I didn't want this to happen. I got so much from her, but I lost her. My heart is broken and I miss her so much. She was like a mother to me, taking care of me all these years," Pa Tim said.
The Thai maid, who has four children, also said Madame Catherine transferred her salary, internet fees, water and electricity bills in full to her before her death. She also transferred money for her cremation. Pa Tim promised to hold a decent funeral and never forget Madame Catherine's kindness.
She still doesn’t know what she will do with the villa, but she definitely decided not to sell it, like the owner’s expensive cars.
She believes that Katrin committed suicide because she was under great stress from the news of cancer and wanted to “leave” without suffering.
