Mazda has completed the formation of an all-terrain line on a new platform. Following the European CX-60, as well as the CX-70 and CX-90 for the United States, a fourth model with the index CX-80 is presented. She will lead the Mazda crossover fleet for Europe. Two interior layout options are offered, with six or seven seats, and two power plants. Sales should start this fall.
The Mazda CX-80 turned out to be about a quarter of a meter larger than the platform CX-60. With a length of 4995 mm, the wheelbase of the crossover is 3120 mm. The new product received a common front design for the entire family, but the rear was designed with its own design, with characteristic rear pillars, a spoiler and chrome trim around the windows. Trunk volume is from 258 to 1971 liters.
The driver's area of the interior is directly carried over from the CX-60. The crossover has the same front panel with an original finish, central tunnel, steering wheel and 12.3-inch screen. The first to go on sale will be a 6-seater version with separate seats on the second row, to which it will be possible to optionally add a console with a box for small items and cup holders. She will also play the role of an armrest. The seats of the second move longitudinally in the range of 120 mm.
The most affordable Mazda CX-80 in Europe will receive a mild hybrid based on a 3.3-liter diesel engine with 254 hp. With. and 550 Nm, another 16 liters. With. and 153 Nm will be added by the starter-generator. As a result, the crossover will accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds with a top speed of 219 km/h. The hybrid version is much more energetic: it will take 6.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h, but the top speed is only 195 km/h. Its power plant includes a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, developing 327 hp. With. and 500 Nm. On electric power, such an all-terrain vehicle will travel up to 63 km.
In both cases, the transmission includes an 8-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system with an emphasis on the rear axle, but simplified rear-wheel drive versions have already been promised for some markets.
In addition to Europe, Mazda plans to sell the CX-80 in Japan and Australia, and in these countries a petrol six could be added to the engine range. In China, the company is preparing for the premiere of a new family of electric vehicles with the EZ index. At first, it will include a sedan and a crossover developed together with Changan.
