A domestic dog fought off a cougar

In the USA, a dog was attacked by a cougar, but managed to fight off and escape. Footage of a predatory cat attack has appeared online.

The incident occurred in La Verne, California, on the evening of February 10. Holly, a three-year-old Giant Schnauzer dog, was walking in her backyard when she was attacked by a predator. She unsuccessfully tried to escape from the claws of the cougar for about a minute until the neighbors noticed it. They ran outside and started screaming at the predator, thanks to which Holly managed to free herself.

During the struggle, Holly received a neck wound. She is now at home and recovering. It is noted that 20 minutes after the attack on the dog, the cougar again appeared near the house.

Holly's owners were horrified to learn what had happened. Other local residents expressed concern, saying they were worried about the lives of their children and pets.

There are more than 4,500 cougars in California. Predators often wander into residential areas in search of food, especially if they cannot find it in their natural habitat.
