Disney cartoons that received the lowest ratings from viewers (10 photos)
The great and mighty Disney has been around for a hundred years! Over these many years, the studio has created as many as 73 full-length cartoons, which were shown in cinemas around the world. Many of them have become true classics that are loved and re-watched to this day. But this post is dedicated to the most unsuccessful projects that received the lowest ratings from viewers. The measure, as always, will be the good old IMDb.
The Black Cauldron (1985)
IMDb: 6.3
Disney's film adaptation of Lloyd Alexander's novel of the same name, which turned out to be unusually dark for the studio. After the commercial failure of the cartoon, Disney bosses fired director Richard Rich, who had previously directed the good The Fox and the Hound (1981).
Peter Pan: Return to Neverland (2002)
IMDb: 5.8
Critics believe that adults will find the continuation of the story about Peter Pan extremely derivative, but at the same time it has every chance of entertaining children.
The Adventures of Tigger (2000)
IMDb: 6.3
The solo film about Winnie the Pooh's most cheerful friend received rather bleak reviews. Critics consider the cartoon funny and charming, but very simple in terms of pictures.
Planes: Fire and Water (2014)
IMDb: 5.9
Not everyone knows that Disney's Planes is a spin-off of Pixar's Cars. And just as the three parts of “Cars” became one of Pixar’s weakest projects, the two parts of “Planes” turned out to be one of Disney’s most failed duologies.
Moreover, the second part, where the main airplane character turns from a racer into a rescuer, received higher ratings than the first.
By the way, here she is.
Airplanes (2013)
IMDb: 5.7
Critics write that apart from the bright colors that may attract children and the sale of toys, this cartoon is a real Disney failure.
Chicken Little (2005)
IMDb: 5.7
The 2000s were not the best period for the studio, which often forgot that a cartoon should not only look interesting, but also contain some kind of plot.
The Jungle Book 2 (2003)
IMDb: 5.3
Heart's Desire (2023)
IMDb: 5.8
You probably didn't notice it, but Disney just released one of the worst animated films in its history. And even in the year of the centenary! Moreover, the cartoon itself seemed to pay tribute to all the classic Disney projects with endless references and stylization.
As critics write, “nostalgia is no substitute for the true magic of good storytelling.”
Don't Kick (2004)
IMDb: 5.4
Another bright but plotless Disney project that is best not to watch if you are over 12 years old.
Strange World (2022)
IMDb: 5.7
You probably didn't notice, but a year before the disastrous Dream Wish, Disney released the worst animated film in its history. At least from the point of view of audience ratings. Critics reacted warmly to the cartoon, especially for the picture, but they also noted that the story told was rather mediocre.
And “Strange World” became the most unprofitable project in the world of cinema for 2022.
