Some VW owners are now afraid to drive

American Volkswagen owners have filed a lawsuit over touch-sensitive buttons on their steering wheel. They claim they are too sensitive and activate adaptive cruise control with even the slightest touch.

A new class action lawsuit in the US claims that the touch-sensitive buttons are not just inconvenient, but can pose a real safety risk. Several years ago, Volkswagen admitted that the touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel were a mistake and promised to return to physical switches in future models. However, current owners continue to use the touch-sensitive buttons, which, due to their sensitivity, activate adaptive cruise control, which, in turn, can create dangerous situations.

The lawsuit concerns the Volkswagen ID.4 electric car, with two plaintiffs now afraid to drive it for fear of accidentally touching the touch buttons. The document says the automaker failed to disclose the alleged defect, offer its customers proper repairs or free replacements, or compensation. It also says the company knew about the problem from customer complaints, internal records, and information from dealers.
