Britain's tallest dog eats a whole chicken every day (10 photos + 1 video)
The Aksaray Malakly dog, whose height is just over two meters, is recognized as the tallest dog in Great Britain. He weighs as much as a baby elephant and eats 3 kg of meat a day. It costs the owner a fortune to feed this good boy. At the same time, despite its size, it has a very gentle character.
The Aksaray Malakli (Turkish Mastiff) named Abu weighs 114 kg and is more than two meters tall. The dog lives with his owner, 33-year-old trainer Dylan Shaw, in Yorkshire, and was recently recognized as the tallest dog in the UK. Two-year-old Abu eats 3kg of meat a day, including a whole chicken, three whole mackerel fish, two eggs and meaty dog food. His diet costs the owner 11 pounds sterling per day, which is just over 4 thousand pounds sterling per year.
Despite his size, Abu is a gentle giant who loves affection and loves to play with his owners' two small children. According to the owner, sometimes Abu himself is not aware of his size: sometimes he tries to climb onto his owners’ laps to ask for affection, and he also whines when he is reprimanded for his pranks.
"We are happy to be the owners of Abu. He is a good family dog and gets along great with children. He is very energetic outdoors, but calm in the house - you won't notice his presence until you trip over him. When he stands on all fours, his shoulders are above my hips - I’m 181 cm tall, and next to him I look small,” says the owner.
Turkish Mastiffs are fully grown at three years old, so Abu will be even bigger in a year! Dylan said that he had always wanted to get a dog of this breed, but was waiting until he had enough space at home. Abu was brought from Turkey in November 2021 when he was just four months old - but according to Dylan, at that time he was already larger than his second dog, Doberman Luna.
While walking around the city, many are surprised by Abu’s size and ask to take a photo with him. According to Dylan, many people compare Abu to a horse, and sometimes ask him how to feed such a dog.
"Abu has grown much bigger than I expected. He is quite large even for his breed. A couple of months ago I took him to my children's school for Pet Day - all the children were delighted with him. Abu is wonderful a dog, and I wouldn’t trade him for anyone,” says Dylan.
