What's That Thing: The Strangest Finds. Issue 212 (13 photos)

We regularly come across things that we can't immediately identify. All these incomprehensible things excite the imagination and torment us with doubts, but here, as always, experts from the Internet come to the rescue, who easily and quickly solve all the riddles.

And here is a new part of our irregular column "Explain to me what this thing is?" The essence of the post remains the same: people find interesting and incomprehensible things, and Internet experts tell them what they dug up. Welcome to all and enjoy watching!

"I bought this thing at a thrift store. I twist and turn it, but I can't figure out how to use it. It also clicks coolly"

This thing used to be pressed against the body of a racehorse in the place that was previously kneaded by hands after training. That is, the muscle was first massaged, and then this clicker was moved so that it would click and the horses would have pleasant associations between the massage and the clicks. This is how the horse was accustomed to massage after training and the emotional connection with the rider was strengthened.

"This thing was found in a box with parts. It looks like a cowbell, but it doesn't ring! It's about 5 cm and quite light"

This is the wick from a kerosene lamp. We used these for lighting when the electricity went out during severe weather. The lamp has an elegant body with a transparent glass tube.

"A metal cylinder with a wire brush inside and a brush. I have no idea where it even came from"

This is a tool for cleaning a car battery. The brush is for cleaning the clamp at the end of the cable, and the brush inside the second part is for cleaning the battery terminals.

"I work in the kitchen of a very old building. I found this thing, but I don't understand what it is for. Maybe some kind of rolling pin?"

No. It was a thing that protected you from injury when pushing food into the chopper. It kept your fingers from getting cut.

"I found this pink glass bird at a thrift store. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?"

Glasses holder. The nose piece is placed on the bird's nose, and the folded temples are inserted into the socket on its head.

"Don't know what this Velcro on the back of the backpack is for?"

As an experienced traveler, I can say that with this strap you can put a backpack on the retractable handle of a suitcase. This way you will securely fix the backpack on your luggage.

"For days now I've been finding these pink rubber circles all over the house. I can't imagine what they are"

It seems like someone in your house is losing the non-slip rubber bands from their socks.

"Found this thing while cleaning the office"

This is a furniture latch lock.

"I was walking with a metal detector along the river and found this. It's heavy for its size, gold in color, and has "@ Disney" engraved on it."

This is part of the earring from the Princess Aurora luxury jewelry set. My daughter had the exact same set.

"What is this little plastic thing with a microchip inside?"

This is a microwave leak tester. Hold it up to the edges of the microwave door and the little neon light inside glows orange if it senses any radiation.

"Found this sharp metal object in the office"

This is a letter opener. I have one just like it.

"Found this pink stuff in an abandoned mine. Doesn't look like a mineral, more like wax. Also has bite marks on it"

I assume it's for waxing the rope so it moves smoothly through the pulleys. And the bite marks were probably left by rodents.

"Found this metal thing in a button jar. The back moves back and forth"

This is a shirt cufflink. It was probably part of a set. Sometimes they were even worn with a dress.
