A fifteen-year-old skinny cat was picked up on the streets of New Jersey. The animal was in poor condition and was trying to survive. Thanks to kind people, the cat ended up at the Voorhees shelter. And the center’s employees quickly fell in love with this charming and affectionate guy.
“This sweet cat should not spend the last years of his life in a shelter,” the volunteers said.
They named the cat Barnaby, and he immediately fell in love with every employee at the center. The volunteers were sure that the person who takes the cat in would not regret it for a minute. That's when Dr. Ed Sheehan and his wife Claire of Sheehan Veterinary Center came across a post on Facebook about an unfortunate cat looking for a new home.
“When we saw his photo on Facebook, we felt that he really needed care and love. We immediately called the shelter and asked them to give us Barnaby,” says Claire.
When Ed and Claire picked up the cat, they immediately took him to their center for a full checkup. Barnaby immediately settled into the new owner's office, as if he had been there more than once. The cat quickly took on the role of clinic manager. He inspects how well the floors are cleaned, and in the evening he sits on Ed's lap to make sure the man fills out the paperwork correctly.
“We are giving him medicine and his condition is improving every day. Barnaby has gained almost half a kilogram, and his skin already looks much better. Despite his age, he is a fairly active cat. He loves his adult cat food and loves having his teeth brushed,” says Claire.
Knowing that Barnaby requires serious treatment, which costs a lot of money and is beyond the means of many people, doctors Ed and Claire Sheehan took responsibility for this cat.
“Barnaby is more than just a house cat to us. He is a real employee of the clinic. Not only we love him, but our entire team loves him. All the staff take care of him. When a cat doesn't want to eat, nurses spoon-feed it special cat food with vitamins,” says Dr. Ed.
“Our goal is to take care of him for all his remaining years. And we really want to make Barnaby happy. It is unknown what he went through over the many years of his life, but now we are able to change everything for the better,” admits Claire.
