Once upon a time, Smokey was a beloved dog and lived in a big house... But his owners lost their home and could no longer look after the animal. The five-year-old dog was taken to the shelter along with his favorite toy - a stuffed elephant, which the pet never parted with.

Life in the shelter turned out to be a real shock for the animal. He frantically clenched the toy in his teeth, not understanding what was happening...

Smokey's love for the stuffed elephant was so strong that the shelter staff hung a sign on his enclosure with the information that the dog's future owner would have to take not only the dog, but also his toy.

Time passed, but no kind hands were found for Smokey. The dog was depressed and did not want to contact the shelter workers. He growled at people all the time, and in general, the dog was under terrible stress.

Due to antisocial behavior, they decided to euthanize Smokey...

But we didn’t have time!

Before the verdict took place, two volunteers from a non-profit animal rescue organization stopped by the shelter. They saw Smokey cowering in fear and just fell in love with him! Well, and a stuffed elephant, too, of course!

Volunteers decided to take the dog in order to find a home for the pet (and for the elephant :)).

And from that moment everything changed!

Smokey felt that there was no longer a threat. He understood everything and... began to smile!

And the volunteers are sure that as soon as the dog is in the family, his behavior will change dramatically. He will become an affectionate family dog again, but for now...

... Smokey never stops smiling and hoping!

The worst is already behind us.
