Grandmother gave away the money she inherited
There are people who say that it is better to give than to receive. These words perfectly describe the story of this lonely 86-year-old woman from Serbia, who received an unexpected inheritance from her late husband. What she did with the money will definitely make you open your mouth in amazement.
Maria Zlatic lived alone in a village in Serbia. For many years she depended on her neighbors, who willingly shared with her food, things and everything necessary for life. These people gave her everything she needed without asking for anything in return.
In 1956, Maria and her husband Momcilo moved to Australia from Serbia. She was a housewife, and her husband was a carpenter in a factory. After a year and a half, Maria decided to return to Serbia to take care of her sick mother. The couple initially communicated, but in the turmoil Maria was unable to return to Australia when her mother died. Since then, their relationship began to crumble. Eventually they broke up.
In old age, she was left alone, living in a village with the help of her neighbors, since she could not boast of a very large pension. Soon Maria heard rumors that her husband had married a second time, became terribly rich and died, leaving her a huge inheritance - almost one million dollars. At first, of course, she didn’t believe it.
People thought that Mary would start a new life after she became rich. But the old lady had a completely different plan. Maria divided the money among all the villagers, who always helped her. In gratitude.
“I don’t need money,” explains Maria, “I have water, bread and firewood, and that’s all I need to be happy.”
The old lady seems to understand the value of relationships and gratitude. This means that it is just as important to give as it is to receive.
