Cameras inside squirrel nests reveal life behind closed doors

John builds wooden houses for squirrels and gives them away for free. He installed cameras in some of them, capturing footage of the animals sleeping, raising their young, and sharing their homes.

In an interview with the creator of the video, he said he has already made over a thousand houses. In winter, up to sixteen squirrels would gather in one of them, huddling together in a tight pile. But not all of them are willing to share—one of the regular residents occupies several houses at once and chases away uninvited neighbors.

The cameras also serve a helpful purpose: according to John, thanks to his monitoring, he spotted over thirty motherless baby squirrels and handed them over to wildlife rehabilitation specialists.
