Machinarium 2 Officially Announced (2 Photos + 1 Video)
Amanita Design has announced a sequel to its acclaimed puzzle adventure Machinarium, 17 years after the original game was released. The story picks up right where the first game left off.
The story follows Josef and his girlfriend Berta after their escape from Machinarium. The pair discovers two distinct robot settlements: one tucked away in the high-altitude Electron Monastery, and the other down in the town of Oilton below. Together, they must help the power-starved communities solve their energy crisis.
A major new feature in Machinarium 2 is the ability to play as both Josef and Berta. Players can seamlessly switch between the two protagonists, leveraging their unique abilities to solve puzzles.
The game supports both mouse and controller inputs, though Amanita Design notes that playing with a gamepad offers the ultimate experience.
Staying true to the original, all environments are entirely hand-drawn. The developers revealed that the game's visual style draws heavy inspiration from Renaissance painting.
Tomáš Dvořák, better known as Floex, returns to compose the soundtrack for Machinarium 2, having crafted the music for the original game.
An official release date for Machinarium 2 has yet to be announced.
