Penguins leave the island as the Antarctic winter sets in

Ukrainian polar researchers showed how penguins are gradually leaving the island with the onset of the Antarctic winter.
As recently as late summer, nearly 11,000 birds lived here — a record number. Now, only about 30 penguins remain on the island.
Researchers from the Akademik Vernadsky station explain that this is a normal seasonal phenomenon: penguins migrate to areas with more open water in winter so they can hunt krill and fish.
