Scar: The legendary king of the Masai Mara (photo)

Scarface is the world's most famous lion, becoming a symbol of the strength and resilience of Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve. Born between 2007 and 2008, he received his name from a deep scar above his right eye, sustained during a brutal battle for territory in 2012. Along with his three brothers—Morani, Sikio, and Hunter—he formed a formidable coalition known as the "Four Musketeers." For a decade, this group held power in the Masai Mara, an incredible achievement for a wild lion. Scarface survived numerous deadly encounters, becoming the subject of BBC and National Geographic documentaries. The legendary lion died of natural causes in June 2021 at the age of 14, remaining a legend of the African savannah until his final days.
