How the "bright future" was seen in 1960s advertising (22 photos)
In 1961, Motorola commissioned American artist Charles Schridde to create a series of illustrations about a "bright future." In his drawings, the artist imagined what homes of the future would look like, equipped with cutting-edge technology and built to unprecedented designs. These works were published in Life magazine and the Saturday Evening Post from 1961 to 1963. 
Artist Charles Schridde was born in 1926 and raised in suburban Illinois, USA. He drew from an early age, and at 17, he received a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago. Then, after two years in the Navy, Schridde began his career as a freelance commercial illustrator. He quickly acquired renowned clients, including The Saturday Evening Post, Life, Motorola, Chevrolet, and others. 
In 1961, Motorola commissioned Schridde to create a series of illustrations depicting the homes of the future, also featuring products from Motorola's latest line of electronics. Schridde's drawings were published in Life magazine and the Saturday Evening Post from 1961 to 1963. They depicted an optimistic future with futuristic houses of unprecedented design and "future technology."
