Lightning struck the computer through an internet cable. The user left the PC running during a thunderstorm, causing the lightning to strike the ISP line, travel through the cable into the house, fry the router, and then travel through the Ethernet port to the system unit's network port. As a result, the router completely burned out, leaving traces of melting on the wall and wires, and a burnt area on the motherboard near the Ethernet port.
