The path to self-improvement: Advice from Bruce Lee (19 photos)
Bruce Lee accomplished many things in his life: he served in the military in Hong Kong, was a film actor, a martial artist, a director, and the founder of his own kung fu school. He also went down in history as a significant philosopher and thinker. And he certainly had a unique perspective on life. We decided to share his wisdom with you. In our issue, we present the Master's most striking quotes.
I'm only sure of one thing: I can't sing. Although I usually tell everyone what a rich voice I have.
If I tell you I'm a great guy, you'll think I'm bragging. If I tell you I'm worthless, you'll know I'm lying.
Easterners say: "Be flexible. In life, a person is soft and flexible; death makes him hard. This applies to the body, mind, and soul."
You can't win a fight with one blow. Either learn to tolerate insults, or hire a bodyguard. Forget about victories and defeats, forget about pride and pain. If your opponent scratches you, hit him. If your opponent hits you, break his arm. If your opponent breaks your arm, take his life. Don't think about emerging from the fight unscathed. Be prepared to sacrifice everything. Even your life.
Move like water. Freeze like a mirror. Answer like an echo. Money as such has no meaning. It's merely a tool for achieving certain goals, and you need to understand what it can do, and most importantly, what it can't. My father used to tell me, "This year you earned ten dollars. Next year you can earn five. Be prepared."
If you don't want to stumble tomorrow, speak the truth today. Western education is suitable for one person, Eastern education for another. You can say, "This finger is better for certain things, this one for others." But the whole hand is better in any case.
A wise man gains more knowledge from a foolish question than a fool gains from a wise answer.
An American is like an oak tree: he stands firmly on the ground, doesn't bend in the wind, and if the wind blows stronger, he breaks. An Easterner is like bamboo: he bends in the wind, but then straightens up and becomes even stronger than before.

I graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle. Believe it or not, I studied philosophy there.
Gather all the great teachers in one room, and they'll agree on everything in the world. Gather their students, and they'll argue about everything.
There's a Chinese fairy tale. Once upon a time, a butcher had a knife that remained perfectly sharp year after year. When asked how he kept the blade so sharp, the butcher replied, "I follow the lines of the bone. I don't try to cut it, break it, or resist it in any way. That would only ruin the knife." In life, you have to follow the path of obstacles. Trying to wrestle them will only hurt them.
I weigh 70 kilograms. If I don't knock my opponent down in three punches, I'm finished. I use both my arms and legs, and I punch so fast that I have to slow down so the camera can catch my movements. In my very first takes, people just fell to the ground, and you couldn't even see me punching them.
Punching boards and bricks is nothing for weaklings. A board will never fight back.
Of course, I sometimes compromise with my wife and eat American food. You wouldn't serve fried rice with steak, would you?
My strength comes from my stomach. It's my center of gravity, my source of energy.
Let's put it this way: 99 percent of all martial arts are bullshit. They all look great, but they don't work at all. If a 45-kilogram girl is attacked, all she can do is strike with all her might at one of three points: the eyeballs, the groin, or the shin. And at that point, she should run away.
If you love life, don't waste time, because time is what life is made of.
Screw circumstances, create opportunities.
