The American company Space Perspective demonstrated the Excelsior capsule for flights into space. Travelers will travel comfortably to an altitude of about 30 kilometers above the Earth for $125,000.
On February 20, the company said, "Introducing the Neptune Spacecraft Excelsior, our finished capsule! Featuring the largest windows ever and a spherical design, our spacecraft offers breathtaking panoramic views of Earth."
Passengers will be lifted at a speed of 19 km/h using a giant balloon. The capsule is equipped with nine comfortable reclining seats for eight passengers and one pilot. There is Wi-Fi on board and guests will be offered drinks and a delicious lunch. They also have a toilet, which the company calls a “space spa.”
An unforgettable journey will take 6 hours.
Space Perspective has already received more than 1,750 pre-orders for a flight into space. It expects 4,000 seats to be sold by the end of this year, generating $400 million.
Excelsior is the largest spaceflight capsule in existence. Its diameter is 4.9 meters. The capsule is twice the size of Virgin Galactic's Spaceship Two and Blue Origin's New Shepard and about four times the size of SpaceX's Crew Dragon.
Taber McCallum, co-founder of Space Perspective, said: "We are on the cusp of stunning changes - not only in the perception of space, but also in the kind of spacecraft that will take us there."
The capsule is named "Excelsior" in honor of the US Air Force's stratospheric balloon jumping project.
