2 Million Yuan Fine: Chinese Blogger Loses Libel Case with BYD (1 photo)
A Chinese blogger running local social media accounts called "Long Ge Talks EVs" has lost a libel case against BYD. According to CarNewsChina, the blogger appealed the initial ruling late last year, but was unsuccessful. He has already issued a public apology, but has yet to pay a 2 million yuan fine.
The blogger published videos about BYD electric vehicles, which the court found to contain false information about the power electronics, batteries, motors, and control systems. The activity of the "Long Ge Talks Evs" account was found to have damaged the reputation of both BYD as a whole and individual models.
In a published video apology, the blogger accepted the court's ruling that his content had negatively impacted his reputation and acknowledged that the videos contained inappropriate comments.
At the end of January, BYD announced another libel case victory, which resulted in a similar fine. In this case, a blogger was found to be the disseminator of false information after testing a FangChengBao 5 SUV and claiming abnormally high fuel consumption. It was later discovered that the excessively aggressive driving style of the video's author was responsible for the increased fuel consumption.
